Hawaii’s top flight pair in Morgan Martin and Mikayla Tucker went undefeated on the week to earn the Big West Pairs Team of the Week Award.
Freshman Morgan Martin (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley HS) and senior Mikayla Tucker (Placerville, Calif./Fresno Pacific) helped the Rainbow Wahine to a perfect week after an unblemished 4-0 mark at the No. 1 flight.
The tandem dominated its competition, winning all four matches in straight sets in Irvine, Calif to help the SandBows capture the Shave Ice Invitational. The highlight of the day came when Martin and Tucker defeated the Cardinal’s No. 1 pair 21-19, 21-19 as UH moved to 15-2 on the season. After taking down Irvine Valley College, TCU and Stanford at the Invitational, the pair has won nine of their last 11 matches with their only losses coming at the hands of All-Americans McKenna and Madison Witt (Arizona) and Sara Hughes and Kelly Claes of No. 1 USC.
This is Hawaii’s third award of 2017 and the first for the duo.
