Todd Chamberlain, who spent the last eight years as an assistant coach at Kansas, is coming home. Louisville head coach Dani Busboom Kelly, announced the addition of Chamberlain to her staff on Thursday.
“We are very excited to welcome Todd back to his hometown and to the University of Louisville,” Busboom Kelly said. “Todd spent eight impressive years at the University of Kansas taking them to the Final Four for the first time in program history, while also earning a top 16 seed in the NCAA tournament five times.
“It’s always a bonus when you can bring someone home and Todd understands Louisville athletics and Louisville volleyball. It will be great to have his energy and passion in our gym every day”
Chamberlain helped the Jayhawks to six straight NCAA Tournament berths, including two Sweet 16s (2013, 2015) and one Final Four (2015). Kansas also notched six-straight 20-win seasons.
In his tenure, Chamberlain helped Kansas head coach Ray Bechard to four Big 12 Coach of the Year nods and also was key in the career of All-American middle blocker Kelsie Payne as well as honorable mention selections Sara McClinton and Chelsea Albers.
“First off I want to thank head coach Dani Busboom Kelly, our Senior Women’s Administrator Christine Herring, and Athletic Director Vince Tyra for this great opportunity at the University of Louisville,” Chamberlain said. “I am extremely excited and grateful to be a part of the Cardinal Volleyball Family. The chance to return to my hometown, represent a great university, and coach at an elite volleyball program is an honor. I am forever thankful for the mentors and teams I have had the privilege of coaching that helped provide this opportunity. I have waited a long time to say this officially — Go Cards!”
Chamberlain got his start in collegiate coaching as a volunteer assistant at the University of Kentucky (2009), helping the Wildcats to a 29-5 mark and Sweet 16 berth. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Muncie Burris High School for two seasons.
A four-year letterwinner at Ball State, Chamberlain was an All-MIVA honoree as a senior. The 2009 BSU alum began his playing career at Louisville’s Trinity High School and was a member of the U.S. Youth National Team in 2006.
