Looking forward onto the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, the Peruvian Volleyball Federation brings in Brazilian Luizomar de Moura to lead the women’s national team.

De Moura has been coaching for nearly 30 years, earning numerous titles along the way. He has led Brazil to victories in various age-group titles – including the 2005 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U18 World Championship in China, the 2007 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship and the 2009 Women’s U18 World Championship (both in Thailand). He also led Osasco volleyball club to a title at the 2012 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship held in Doha, Qatar.

“It is an honor for me to coach Peru because it is a country that is passionate about volleyball and has a great volleyball tradition,” said De Moura. “Peru became port of Olympic history with their silver medal in 1988. You and I have a great dream in common, for Peru to return to the Olympic Games. My dream is to lead the team, and we shall work together towards that dream. This is my desire, and I will fight for it.”

As head coach of the Peruvian team, de Moura’s first challenge will come at the XVI Pan American Cup in June, followed by the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Group 2 competition. The first leg of the grand prix competition will be held in Chiclayo, Peru.

Followed by these events, Peru is set to travel to Columbia to compete in the South American Championship in August, shortly followed by the 2018 World Championship qualification tournament in Peru in October, playing for a spot in next year’s tournament in Japan.
