The St. Cloud State volleyball team has added two standout transfer players to the depth of their roster in anticipation of the 2017 season next fall.

Kayla Crane joins the Huskies after two seasons with the University of Sioux Falls, while new teammate Emma Melander joins after redshirting her freshman season and seeing playing time this past fall, her 2nd year, at the University of Minnesota Crookston.

“We are excited to bring in Kayla and Emma as both players have experience in the NSIC and at the Division II level,” said Braegelmann.

“Kayla played for two seasons at Sioux Falls where she had over 1300 assists, 40+ aces and 372 digs while setting her team to an NSIC Tournament appearance.   She brings knowledge of what it takes to be successful in this league.”

In her two seasons at Sioux Falls, Crane racked up 1,387 assists in 59 matches played. She also padded her stats with 372 digs, 79 kills, and 42 service aces in her 222 sets played. Kayla is a 2014 graduate of Maple Grove High School, and plans to continue working on her Elementary Education degree at St. Cloud State.

“Emma redshirted her freshman season at UM Crookston and can bring some depth as a pin hitter and backrow player for us.   We are excited to see how she can come in and develop with her athleticism.”

Melander, a 2015 graduate of Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria, was an All-Wright County Conference Honorable Mention pick. She served as her team’s captain and also competed for the Vital Volleyball Club, where she most recently played for the 18-1 Gold squad. She accumulated 312 kills with a .297 attack percentage as a senior at Holy Family. Emma plans to major in biology while at St. Cloud State.

The Huskies started spring practices on January 9 in preparation for their 2017 season.
