Amid the start of the 2017 SEA Games, Malaysia has been hit with another injury on the team as Yap Kent Bin is down with a hamstring injury. Bin injured his hamstring while training at the MBSA Indoor Hall in Shah Alam last week. Just one month ago, the team’s captain, Sim Jian Qin was taken off the court and excluded from pre-Sea Games competition with an ankle injury.

Malaysia’s head coach, Tay Yeu Siong is not too worried yet, hoping that the two players will be able to compete come the start of their first match against Cambodia on August 21.

“Kent Bin is recuperating, but I can’t say for sure whether he will be ready in time for the group matches. The good news is that Jian Quin’s back in training, but he’s not 100% fit,” said Siong.

The Malaysian team is quite young, with an average age of 19 amongst all players, with both injured players being seniors on the team, at the age of 21.

Malaysia will face off against Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia in the Group A pool of the SEA Games. Group B comprises of the Philippines, Indonesia, Timor Leste and Vietnam.
