Class of 2020 recruit Clarke Godbold has verbally committed to the Long Beach State University (LBSU) Men’s Volleyball program. A 6’5″ opposite, Godbold is set to join the 49ers for the school year in the fall of 2020 with his freshman season beginning in the winter of 2021.

A member of the U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team, Godbold’s profile can be seen here. Note that his favorite player is TJ DeFalco, set to be a senior this season with the 49ers. Over the summer he won a silver medal at the NORCECA U19, including leading the team in points in the championship match. He also earned some starts along the way and was a key contributor to the run.

Godbold is currently a junior at Peninsula High School in Rolling Hills Estates, California. As a sophomore he helped the team to a 24-9 record and was listed on the Daily Breeze All-Area boys volleyball team.

In terms of club ball, Godbold has played indoor and sand with Southern California Volleyball Club (SCVC) dating back to 2015. Most recently he played with the 16 Quiksilver team. He was listed as one of 25 underclassmen to watch in high school by Volleyball Magazine.

LBSU is the defending National Champions after they finished the 2018 season at 28-1 overall. They’re also ranked #1 in VolleyMob’s Way-Too-Early 2019 Men’s Top 20 Power Rankings.
