Miami University head volleyball coach Carolyn Condit announced the hiring of Tania Schatow as a new assistant coach on Tuesday. Schatow comes to the RedHawks from Louisiana State, where she served as a volunteer assistant coach for her alma mater.

“Tania has a wealth of experience in all attacking and blocking positions from her years at LSU under her highly respected coach, Fran Flory,” said Condit. She also spent six years competing in Europe which helped solidify her own coaching style. Tania is a fine teacher, and has the motivation, knowledge and personal drive to help us move our team forward toward top 25 status and another championship.”

During her season at LSU in 2017, Schatow worked with the middle hitters in all facets of the game and helped develop the team blocking system. She helped scout opponents and organize practice plans. The Tigers went 20-10 last season, returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014.

Prior to returning stateside, Schatow played six seasons on the European professional circuit. She was a starting middle hitter on Oostende Volley in Belgium from 2013-17. She also played for Albi Volley (2012-13) in France and De Hann Volley (2011-12) in Belgium. She got a head start in her coaching career during this time, serving as a coach of both a Belgian under-16 girls and under-16 boys team during her playing career.

Schatow was a four-year letterwinner for LSU who had a breakout senior season campaign in 2010. She made 27 starts and recorded 90 blocks, the second highest total on the team. Schatow graduated from LSU in 2011 with a degree in kinesiology.

“I am excited for the opportunity to work at this university,” said Schatow. “The academics and athletics at Miami attracted me to this position right away. There is an amazing culture established here and a group of great girls that I feel honored to work with. Everyone that I have met has been extremely welcoming. I want to thank Carolyn and Brian for offering me this job and look forward to a great season ahead.”
