The University of Michigan volleyball program will take a trip to Europe during the summer of 2018, head coach Mark Rosen announced earlier this week.

The June trip will include stops in Slovenia and Italy, as the Wolverines compete against local teams as well as sightsee. The full itinerary for the trip has not been finalized.

“I am excited for this amazing educational opportunity,” said Rosen. “In addition to participating in great volleyball competition, this will provide our student-athletes a memorable cultural and international experience. For many, this will be their first time to travel outside of the United States, and the learning opportunity this provides is one of the many ways that Michigan is the Leaders and Best.”

Michigan is fundraising for the trip and is seeking donations to reach a $25,000 goal. Thanks to a generous supporter, each dollar raised up to the $25,000 amount will be matched for a potential total of $50,000.

With the fundraising page live for less than two full days, numerous supporters have contributed to raise 30 percent of the goal already.

As a special thank you, donors who contribute $500 and above will be sent an official maize and blue international volleyball used by the team during the trip.

Michigan most recently took a foreign trip in 2013, visiting Brazil and Argentina during a 13-day tour of South America. This will mark the third foreign trip in program history, with the first coming in 2009.
