USA VOLLEYBALL COLLEGIATE BEACH OPEN

The two teams who will represent the USA at the women’s U21 World Championships later this month met in the championship match of this weekend’s USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Open in Huntington Beach, and it was Mima Mirkovic and Kathryn Plummer who came away victorious over Savannah Simo/Torrey Van Winden. No final score was reported.

On the way to that championship match, Mirkovic and Plummer avenged their only loss of the tournament, to Vitoria Rodrigues and Victoria Lopes. The former swept the latter pair 2-0 (21-16, 21-18); Rodrigues/Lopes won 2-1 in pool play on Thursday.

In the men’s draw, Brazilians Renato Carvalho/Adrielson Silva took gold, beating their countrymates Rafael Quieroz/Gabriel Gouveia in an all-Brazilian final.

The male representatives to the U21 World Championships, Clay Messenger and Adam Wienckowski won the bronze medal over Timothy Brewster/Rowdy Lennon 2-0 (21-11, 21-18)
