Injured after having played only one set this season for BluVolley Verona of Italy’s Serie A1, Mitar Djuric is finally back to the volleyball courts. Originally expected to be away from the courts for up to 16 weeks, his recovery came ahead of schedule, and he was able to return after only 8 weeks. You can clearly see on the video below him letting his emotions go after scoring his first point since his injury in Verona’s game against Vibo Valentia:

Previously to his return, he called on the fans on Verona’s official Instagram page to come watch the team on his return:

Djuric is a core piece of Verona’s squad, being ranked 7th last season in League A1’s scoring with 398 points and landing 47.5% of his shots, en route to leading the team to a 5th-place finish in the regular-season and an opening-round playoff loss. This year’s squad looks a lot more competitive, and is currently in 4th place in Italy’s League A1 standings. Having Djuric back will only add to its chances of a deeper playoffs run this season. He is a fan favorite and an emotional leader for the team, always the most emotional in all team pictures, having the time of his life:

Djuric enjoyed his time off from the courts to get engaged to Martina Guiggi, an Italian volleyball player for the national team and Pomi Casalmaggiore. Born in Saravejo, Bosnia & Herzogovina, Djuric represents Greece internationally.
