Mizzou Volleyball (10-3, 1-0 SEC) posted a dominating 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-16) sweep over South Carolina on Wednesday evening. Following their impressive victory, the Tigers are now 5-0 all-time in Southeastern Conference season-opening matches.
Junior Courtney Eckenrode (The Woodlands, Texas) and the new 5-1 offense once again produced an outstanding offensive night. Mizzou’s attack tallied 45 kills on .367 hitting with the aid of Eckenrode’s 39 assists. In the third set, the Tigers closed out their sweep in style with 14 kills on an incredible .667 hitting.
Senior Carly Kan (Honolulu) delivered an excellent all-around match, as she recorded her fifth double-double of the year. Kan tallied 10 kills on season high .375 hitting, while also adding 14 digs. Redshirt junior Melanie Crow (Wildwood, Mo.) also excelled on the outside, delivering 12 kills on .367 hitting. The productive night marked Crow’s 10th match with double-digit kills this season.
Defensively, senior Alexa Ethridge‘s (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) 18 digs led the Tigers for the 10th time this year. Kan’s four total blocks paced the team and marked a new season high. Senior Emily Thater(Springfield, Mo.) and sophomore Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) each finished with three total blocks apiece, keying Mizzou’s eight total blocks on the evening.
Junior Sydney Deeken (California, Mo.) provided a late spark off the bench for Mizzou, recording two kills and one solo block despite limited action.

Mizzou continues SEC play this Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Hearnes Center. The Tigers welcome Ole Miss to Mid-Missouri with first serve scheduled for 12 p.m. (CT). Sunday afternoon’s contest will broadcast live on ESPNU.
