MKS Dąbrowa Górnicza lost its 18th game this week in the Polish League, this time against Impel Wroclaw. This defeat means that it is very unlikely that the team will escape relegation this season. This probably comes as a shock for fans of the club, since the team has not finished worse than 5th place for the last 10 seasons, when it first debuted into Poland’s top tier league. The club finished runner up to the title in the 2012-13 season and won the Polish Cup twice (2011-12 and 2012-13).
Amid such a situation, MKS’s Ewelina Tobiasz had an emotional message of apology to fans:
I would like to apologize to our supporters, who despite the adverse results, support us so much. I want to apologize for our attitude in the match against Impel. We train and we play for the fans. Each won set, each point scored, we dedicate to the fans. But we fell short, and now our team now only has a marginal chance of not being relegated. We did not play as we expected.
Each of us had a goal at the beginning of the season, coming to MKS, and I think that it was definitely not the last place in the league table. It was to, at the end of the season, to be able to calmly tell each other that we had given our best and that no opponent easily beat us.
It is difficult for me to explain what is the result of our weaker game, the reasons for this attitude must be sought in our heads. Perhaps we lacked confidence, surely our attitude is affected by these several defeats and these negative emotions prevail in the most inappropriate moment. There is no explanation for us and we can not justify ourselves. We had a normal training cycle throughout the week and we did not present what we were practicing two days ago.
MKS’s last three games of the season will be against Budowlanych Łódź, ŁKS, and Chemik Police. These are among the strongest teams in the league, and it is very probable MKS won’t score a single point in these three matches.
