Wisconsin sophomore to-be, Molly Haggerty may not see the court in the 2017 season much or at all after having back surgery in the off-season.
Haggerty was a driving force for the Badgers in the 2016 season, being named as the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Year and a third-team All-American. Haggerty averaged a team-high 3.41 kills per set while playing in 31 of the 33 matches on the year. For the season, Haggerty put down 385 kills, 19 aces, 276 digs and 50 blocks.
In January, Haggerty underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in her lower back, causing her to sit out of the spring season while recovering. Later, she was cleared to return to light activity before suffering a recurrence of the injury. Haggerty, wanting to prepare for the upcoming season, may have taken her workouts too far, causing the recurrence of the injury, however, her doctors expressed to her that it could have happened simply with her sneezing.
The pain began early on in the season for Haggerty, occurring often. A high pain tolerance kept her on the court ready to fight for her team.
Haggerty’s spot on the court is undecided at this point, having to see if the injury will persist or if it will maintain enough for her to play volleyball for Wisconsin this season.
