Moorpark College will be adding beach volleyball for female student-athletes starting in spring 2018.

Sand volleyball is becoming one of the most rapidly growing collegiate sports. Moorpark is going to be providing the opportunity for their student-athletes to improve their skills and earn a quality education with the school.

By adding beach volleyball to their program, they are looking to improve their athletic program in many ways, one – with a new sport and two – financially.

“The state revenue generated from the added student athletes won’t reach our campus for 18 months,” said Interim Athletic Director Vance Manakas. “So, there will be a time gap between paying bills and getting paid. Nonetheless, adding these sports is in the best interest of Moorpark College on many fronts, including financially.”

The athletics program will rely on fundraising efforts during these implementation months. The funds raised will go to covering non-salary operational costs associated with these sports.

Moorpark College is set to hire a full time women’s volleyball coach, who will coach indoor in the fall and beach in the spring. The coach will also have to teach Kinesiology and Health Departments. Applications for the full-time position will be posted in January.

In addition to beach volleyball, the college will be reinstating their wrestling program.
