MOREHEAD, Ky. – Off to the program’s best start since 2009, Morehead State volleyball hits the road for the first time this season on Tuesday. The Eagles travel to Huntington, W. Va. to take on rival Marshall at 6 p.m. ET at Gullickson Gym.

The Eagles (3-0) swept last weekend’s Eagle Challenge, defeating St. Francis Brooklyn, Bradley, and Hampton. The Thundering Herd (0-3) return home after facing Dayton, South Alabama, and Ball State at the Dayton Invitational.

Morehead State owns a 22-16 advantage in the all-time series, but Marshall has captured the last four from the Eagles. The Eagles last victory in the rivalry came in 2013 at Wetherby Gym via a sweep.

The Eagles started the 2018 season with a bang offensively, hammering home 141 kills in last weekend’s action. The 141 kills came with just 41 errors, giving Morehead State an OVC-leading .287 hitting percentage. Sophomore Olivia Lohmeier led the charge, recording 37 winners (3.36 per set) en route to a .368 hitting percentage.

Redshirt sophomore setter Chandler Clark ran the offense, dishing out 113 assists across three matches. Clark assisted on 80% of Morehead State’s kills during the weekend, totaling 85% of the team’s total assists. She also added in 22 digs, including 13 versus Bradley to record Morehead State’s first double-double of the year (56 assists).

On the defensive side of the ball, Morehead State suffocated its opponents, allowing the competition to hit just .118, a mark that leads the OVC. The Eagles also lead the league in limiting opponents to 9.64 assist per set, 10.27 kills per set, and 0.82 service aces per set.

Senior middle blocker Maddie Fella turned away 21 total shots last weekend, helping Morehead State to 35 blocks through three matches. The Eagles 11.67 blocks per match leads the OVC. Lohmeier (10), and seniors Jordan Jones (12) and Jessie Wachtman (10) gives Morehead State four players registering double-digit blocks on the year.

Following Tuesday’s road tilt, the Eagles return home to host the Comfort Invitational, Friday and Saturday. The two-day event features Saint Francis (Pa.), Mercer, and Wright State.
