NC State’s Brown, Irvin Take ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina State outside hitter Julia Brown and Wolfpack libero Grace Irvin earned this week’s ACC Volleyball Player and Freshman of the Week honors.

Brown help NC State earn its first ACC weekend sweep of the season, topping Syracuse (3-2) and Boston College (3-1). In Friday’s match against the Orange, she broke the rally-scoring era program record with 31 kills, the most by any player in the ACC this season and most by an NC State player since 1999. She recorded a career-high 31 kills and 16 digs for her 11th double-double this season. Against the Eagles, the junior recorded 11 kills, eight digs and a career-best six block assists. For the weekend, she averaged 5.11 points per set, 4.67 kills per set and 2.67 digs per set.

Irvin collected 14 digs, two assists and a service ace in NC State’s five-set win over Syracuse. In the match against Boston College, the freshman recorded seven digs, two assists and a service ace. Irvin was a key to the Wolfpack’s passing game as she only had two reception errors on 17 attempts over the weekend. Between the two matches, she averaged 2.62 digs per set, 0.50 assists per set, 0.25 aces per set and points per set.
