Staiger Earns 4th Big 12 Offensive Player of The Week Honor of 2016

Baylor’s Katie Staiger, West Virginia’s Mia Swanegan and Texas’ Micaya White have been selected as Big 12 volleyball weekly award honorees for matches played from October 19-22.

This marks Staiger’s fourth Offensive Player of the Week honor on the year, which ties for the fourth-most in a single season and is the most by a Baylor student-athlete in conference history. Swanegan collects her second Defensive Player of the Week selection this season, while White hauls in her fifth Freshman of the Week. White is one of six rookies to win five or more of the Freshman of the Week honors in a single-season.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Katie Staiger, Baylor, RJr., OH, Lewisville, Texas/Prestonwood Christian Academy

  • Helped lead the Bears to a perfect 2-0 mark on the week including a win at Iowa State for the first time since 2005.
  • Led the Big 12 in kills, points, kills per set (5.11) and points per set (5.39).
  • Notched her 12th match this season with 20-plus kills and her fifth with 25 or more with 27 against Iowa State.
  • Recorded her Big 12-leading 12th double-double of the season.
  • With 27 kills at Iowa State and 19 vs Oklahoma, tallied two of the top three single-match kill performances on the week.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mia Swanegan, West Virginia, Jr., MB, Blue Springs, Mo./TCU

  • Led the Big 12 in blocking with 1.75 blocks per set on the week.
  • Set a career-high with 13 blocks against K-State on Saturday in a five-set loss.
  • Her 13 blocks were the second-highest in a single match by a Big 12 player this season.
  • Hit .227 with seven kills and a block against Kansas on Thursday.
  • Totaled 15 kills and 14 blocks on the week.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Micaya White, Texas, OH, Frisco, Texas/Centennial

  • Ranked fourth in the league for the week in kills per set (3.62) and tied for fourth in points per set (4.12).
  • Totaled 29 kills, 19 digs and eight blocks on the week.
  • Hit .235 with 13 kills and 10 digs against TCU, while adding 16 kills with nine digs and five blocks at Texas Tech.
