The Northern Illinois University volleyball team returns from the West Coast to take on Northern Iowa on Tuesday night, Sept. 5, in Cedar Falls. First serve between the Huskies and Panthers is scheduled for 6 p.m., and will be available on ESPN3.

NIU (0-7) returns to the Midwest after dropping a trio of matches this past weekend at the Oregon Classic, including to 2016 NCAA Tournament teams Texas Rio Grande Valley and No. 14 Oregon.

After posting a team-best 21 kills (2.10 per set) and 10 blocks (1.0 per set), junior Meg Wolowicz (Manitowoc, Wis./Manitowoc Lincoln) was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Oregon Classic. In the opening match of the tournament against Loyola Marymount, Wolowicz tied a season-high with nine kills and posted a season-best six blocks. The Manitowoc, Wis., native recorded a team-best 26.5 points in the tournament to earn her second consecutive all-tournament honor.

With her fifth dig last Friday (Sept. 1) against Loyola Marymount, senior Anna Brereton (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) moved past Nikki Kozak (1,455; 1990-93) into third-place on NIU’s all-time digs list. Brereton now has 1,494 career digs, which ranks 15th among all active players in NCAA Division I. A two-time Academic All-MAC honoree, Brereton leads the Huskies averaging 3.58 digs per set.

Northern Iowa (4-2) will be playing its first home match of the season on Tuesday night. The Panthers have played four ranked opponents in their first six matches, including wins over No. 19 Missouri (Aug. 26) and 18th-ranked Southern California (Sept. 1). Karlie Taylor is averaging 4.58 kills per set to pace the Panthers. UNI posted a 24-10 record a season ago, falling to Creighton in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.

Tuesday’s match begins a week in which the Huskies will play four-straight matches against schools from the State of Iowa. NIU will return to action this weekend at the Iowa Invitational in Iowa City, beginning against the host Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday afternoon, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m.
