A setback has struck the Ohio State line-up in that junior Taylor Hughes will sit out for the remainder of the season with an undisclosed injury.
Hughes has been the Buckeyes primary setter this season, but now, in her absence, freshman Becca Mauer has to step up to lead the team. Hughes, who is an all-around threat for the Ohio State team, has dished out 902 assists on the year for an average of 10.25 assists per set while posting 129 kills and 18 aces on the year. Defensively, Hughes was a strong defender for the Buckeye crew with 204 digs and 57 blocks on the year. The injury occurred sometime between Ohio State’s loss at Minnesota on November 4 and the team’s sweep over Rutgers on November 8.
Mauer has played in a total of 44 sets this season and 19 matches, having dished out 139 assists and has 41 digs.
The Buckeyes have posted a 14-13 record this season with a 7-9 Big Ten showing. Ohio State has just four more Big Ten matches left on the season with their next coming against Nebraska followed by Iowa at home. To end off the season, the Buckeyes will travel to Maryland and return home to take on Illinois.
