Olympians Highlight 32 Teams Selected For World Tour Event In Langkawi

2017 FIVB World Tour – Malaysia Open

The FIVB has announced the entry list for the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Malaysia Open. There are 32 teams from 17 countries entered for the event that will take place in Langkawi on April 15 and 16.

Several Olympians highlight the event as Entry Points leaders, such as Nivaldo Gomez and Sergio Gonzalez of Cuba and the United State’s Emily Stockman and Kimberly Dicello. From the host country, Malaysia’s Elangovan Yogeswaran and Luk Teck Hua will be one of 10 pairs representing Malaysia.

The event will comprise of four rounds for both the men’s and women’s sides of the competitions: the Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

In total, the competition will award $20,000 in prize money, split like such (per pair):

  • 1st place – $2,000
  • 2nd place – $1,500
  • 3rd place – $1,200
  • 4th place – $900
  • 5th to 8th place – $500
  • 9th to 16th place – $300

This event is the second one-star event on the World Tour tournament calendar for the year, following Shepparton, Australia on March 4 and 5. The remaining one-star events will be held in: the Principality of Monaco, Pacific Harbor in Fiji, Daegu and Ulsan in South Korea and Agadir in Morocco.
