OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Calvin Mende – Penn State – 6-11 – OPP – RS-Freshman – Redlands, Calif.

RS-Freshman Calvin Mende has been selected as the EIVA Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 4.30 kills/set and hitting .551 in a 2-0 week for Penn State in EIVA action. On Friday, Mende recorded 14 kills on a .393 hitting percentage in a 3-2 win at NJIT. The following evening Calvin would have a career night as he had 29 kills on only two errors while hitting .659 as the Nittany Lions rallied back from a 2-0 deficit against Princeton for the win. Defensively, Mende added 12 total blocks (1.20 blocks/set) and nine digs during the week. Calvin is currently 5th in the EIVA with total kills (143) and 8th in kills/set (3.11). This is Mende’s first EIVA Offensive Player of the Week selection in 2017.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Taylor Bloomquist – Sacred Heart – 6-8 – MH – Sophomore – Carlsbad, Calif.

Sophomore Taylor Bloomquist has been selected as the EIVA Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 1.67 blocks/set in a 2-0 week for Sacred Heart in EIVA play. Bloomquist finished with a season-high seven total blocks in a 3-0 win at home against Charleston (W. Va.) then followed with three more blocks in a sweep of the Golden Eagles the following night. Taylor is tied for 1st in the EIVA with 1.04 blocks/set and 13th in the nation overall while ranked 6th in total blocks (28) within the EIVA. This is Bloomquist’s first EIVA Defensive Player of the Week selection in 2017.
