Pittsburgh Sweeps Weekly ACC Accolades

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pittsburgh’s Kamalani Akeo and Nika Markovic earned ACC Volleyball Player and Freshman of the Week honors.

This is Markovic’s second time garnering Freshman of the Week honors this season.
Sophomore setter Akeo aided the Panthers in two great performances this weekend, including leading the team to its second-highest hitting percentage during conference play this season. The Hawaii native totaled 87 assists and 15 digs—averaging 12.43 assists per set and 2.14 digs per set. In the three-set win over Boston College, Akeo tallied 36 assists, and in the Panthers’ win over Syracuse, she notched 36.
Right-side hitter Markovic recorded a double-double (15 kills, 17 digs) in the win over the Orange while also tallying three blocks and an ace. Against the Eagles, the freshman committed just two errors in 30 attempts and also notched 15 kills, six digs, two blocks and a .433 hitting percentage. Markovic averaged 4.39 kills per set, 3.29 digs per set and a .343 hitting percentage across the weekend.
