Germany lost their first match of the Montreux Masters on day four against a tough Polish squad in five sets, while Brazil took down Thailand easily in four sets in Pool B. In Pool A, Argentina swept straight through Switzerland in three.
With the four-day being complete, the competition will move into tournament play, including the semifinals. Winning Pool A was Argentina, with a perfect pool play record of 3-0, while Brazil took Pool B by a matter of points over Germany.
Pool A
Argentina def. Switzerland
- 3-0, (25-21, 25-21, 25-20)
Argentina swept through Switzerland in three sets, despite the Swiss side producing more kills 38-36. The Argentinian team out-blocked the Swiss 7-4 and out-served them 6-4 to help secure the win.
Paula Yamila Nizetich led Argentina with 11 points while Lucia Fresco added another 10.
Switzerland’s Maja Storck produced a match-best 15 points while Laura Künzler added another 12 points in the losing effort.

Pool B
Poland def. Germany
- 3-2, (21-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-12, 15-8)
Poland dominated over Germany in the final three sets of the match. The German crew went up 2-0 early in the match, but the Polish side did not give up, coming back to tie things up and send the match into a fifth and deciding set. Poland crushed the final set, winning the match with a fifth set score of 15-8.
Statistically, Poland was dominant as they out-hit the Germans 61-37, out-blocked them 16-10 and out-dug them 73-61.
Leading the Polish side was Malwina Smarzek with 23 points, while Agnieszka Kakolewska added another 18, including 11 kills, six blocks and one ace. Additionally, Natalia Medrzyk put down 17 points with Zuzanna Efimienko putting down 12 points on four kills, seven blocks and one ace.
For Germany, Louisa Lippmann barely put down 10 points with Dora Grozer adding another eight.
Brazil def. Thailand
- 3-1, (25-16, 24-26, 25-17, 25-14)
Brazil used a strong block and tough serve to take down Thailand in four sets, out-blocking Thailand 16-7 and out-serving them 11-2. The win was fairly easy for the Brazilians, aside from their second set hiccup that gave Thailand a shimmering gleam of hope with a tight 26-24 victory. The final two sets were dominated by the Brazilian side, not letting Thailand score 20 in either set.
Tandara Ceixeta led Brazil with 17 points, including 13 kills, two blocks and two aces while teammate Adenizia da Silva added 15 points in the win, contributing seven kills and a match-best eight blocks.
For the losing side, Pimpichaya Kokram put down 15 points while Ajcharaporn Kongyot added another 13.
