PSPS Chemik Police, a club in the Polish B-League, has withdrawn from the 2016-2017 season of the ORLEN Liga, the highest level of women’s volleyball in Poland. The club cited financial problems in forcing the decision after playing 7 games in the season, winning 4 and losing 3.

The reason for such a decision is the very difficult financial situation of the club,” said club president Witold Kosma “For more than two months, we are able to implement final agreements with players, coaching staff, and also due to the tax authorities, the Social Insurance Institution and the entities that perform services for the Police Association of Volleyball Police Chemist,” explained Kosma. “Partners and the Board of KPS Chemik Police SA have attacked with unreasonable accusations, deliberately delaying the implementation of financial improvements.

The decision only includes the senior women’s team, and won’t impact the youth club.

While the team sat in 7th place in the league with 12 points through 7 rounds of play, all of their results will be cancelled and the players are seeking new clubs with whom to finish the season. The decision was imminent in late November when the team postponed a trip to Krakow for a match because of lack of funds to make the trip.

The club finished 7th in the league last season with a 6-7 record and 5th the year before.
