Puerto Rico Wins Gold At The Central American and Caribbean Games

The 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games was recently held in Barranquilla, Colombia. In the indoor volleyball tournament, Puerto Rico went 3-0 in pool play, winning all of its 9 sets of competition against Colombia, Guatemala, and Trinidad and Tobago, thus being exempt from the quarterfinals. It then defeated Mexico 3-1 in the semis, before finally facing off against hosts Colombia once again the finals, winning 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-14). Sequiel Sánchez led the way in the victory with 15 points, followed by Maurice Torres with 14 and Steven Morales with 10. This was the fifth consecutive final for Puerto Rico in Central American Games winning gold in four of them: San Salvador 2002, Cartagena 2006, Mayagüez 2010, Barranquilla 2018. In Veracruz 2014 silver was obtained.
