2017 AVP TOUR – HUNTINGTON BEACH OPEN

The qualification round for the first stop of the AVP Tour begins today in Huntington Beach.

There is a total of 125 pairs in the qualification rounds, 73 for the men and 52 for the women. The top four on each side will move onto the main draw where they will meet the top four seeds in the tournament.

For the women’s qualification round, the top-13 teams earned a first-round bye. Janelle Allen and Briana Hinga claimed the top seed, earning a first-round bye in the tournament and will face the winners of the Sara Fredrickson/Heidi Hausheer-Maarek and Kyla Doig/Presley Forbes match-up.

The men’s qualification round leaves only the top-four seeds with a first-round bye match, with Kevin McColloch and Roberto Rodriguez-Bertran earning the #1 position.

Emily Day and Brittany Hochevar have claimed the top seed for the women’s main draw and will await a qualification round entrant. The two take the top spot in the tournament over April Ross and new partner for the AVP tour, Whitney Pavlik, as Kerri Walsh Jennings is currently in the middle of a lawsuit with the tour operator for a breach of contract.

Lauren Fendrick will be one to watch this season, as last year’s tour champion, with former partner Brooke Sweat. Fendrick is on her second partner of the season with Lane Carico.

On the men’s side of the draw, Taylor Crabb and Jake Gibb have received the top seed in the main draw and will await a qualification round participant for their first match. The strong Olympian pair of Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena earn the third seed in the main draw, facing a qualifier round pair.

The qualification round will conclude today, with the main draw beginning tomorrow May 5-7.
