Qualifying For The 2017 Men And Women’s World Championship Has Begun

The playing field for the 2017 men and women’s world championships has begun. About half of the teams for each division have been determined thus far, with the remaining to be decided by mid 2017.

Girls U18

A total of six teams have qualified for their spots in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championships in Argentina. The remaining teams to qualify will be determined in March and early April.

The qualified for the Girls’ U18 Division are:

  1. Egypt (CAVB)
  2. Dominican Republic (NORCECA)
  3. United States (NORCECA)
  4. Brazil (CSV)
  5. Peru (CSV)
  6. Argentina (Hosts)

Boy’s U19

The boy’s U19 World Championship has had seven teams qualify:

  1. Cuba (NORCECA)
  2. USA (NORCECA)
  3. Tunisia (CAVB)
  4. Egypt (CAVB)
  5. Brazil (CSV)
  6. Argentina (CSV)
  7. Bahrain (Hosts)

Another 13 teams will qualify for the tournament. The CEV and AVC fields have six and four slots to fill, respectively. They will both be determined by the end of April 2017. The final two NORCECA and one CSV slots have yet to be decided.

Women’s U20

For the women’s U20 World Championship draw, five teams have qualified so far:

  1. Dominican Republic (NORCECA)
  2. Brazil (CSV)
  3. China (AVC)
  4. Japan (AVC)
  5. Mexico (Hosts)

The remaining NORCECA and South America will be awarded next April in Costa Rica. Mexico qualifies without taking a NORCECA slot because they are hosting the event.

Men’s U21

There have been six teams to qualify for the men’s U21 World Championships.

  1. Argentina (CSV)
  2. USA (NORCECA)
  3. Egypt (CAVB)
  4. China (AVC)
  5. Iran (AVC)
  6. Czech Republic (Hosts)

NORCECA and CSV each have one slot open left which will be determined in March. Cuba and Canada will be the favorites to take the spots. Europe has yet to award either of their slots, nor have they determined at which tournament they will be given out.

Men’s U23

Six teams have been selected for the men’s U23 World Championships:

  1. Cuba (NORCECA)
  2. Mexico (NORCECA)
  3. Argentina (CSV)
  4. Brazil (CSV)
  5. Poland (CEV)
  6. Egypt (Hosts)

There are two AVC teams to be determined, which will be decided by May 2017, and the CAVB teams will be decided in early 2017.

Women’s U23

Nine teams have qualified for the women’s U23 World Championship playing field:

  1. Egypt (CAVB)
  2. Kenya (CAVB)
  3. Dominican Republic (NORCECA)
  4. Cuba (NORCECA)
  5. Brazil (CSV)
  6. Argentina (CSV)
  7. Turkey (CEV)
  8. Bulgaria (CEV)
  9. Slovenia (Hosts)

The remaining two AVC teams will be determined by May 2017, followed by the World Rankings pick to round out the 12 team tournament.
