Randolph-Macon To Add Men’s Volleyball For 2018-19 Season

Division III men’s volleyball has a new addition to their 75 NCAA programs in Randolph-Macon College. The college’s Director of Athletics, Jeff Burns, made the announcement that men’s volleyball will be the school’s 18th varsity sport.

The team will begin play during the 2018-19 season, therefore, still having a year before they will be up to play.

The assistant women’s volleyball coach, Jared Horrigan, will be promoted to the head men’s volleyball coach. Horrigan has been with the women’s program for the past three season. The women’s other assistant coach, Savanna Love of four seasons will move into the Coordinator of Volleyball role for both teams, while the women’s head coach of the past 14 seasons, Bill Rogers will serve as the Director of Volleyball.

The conference that Randolph-Macon is in, ODAC, does not sponsor men’s volleyball. The closest conference for the newly formed team would be the Continental Volleyball Conference. This conference consists of Eastern Mennonite, Marymount, Juniata, Thiel, Cairn and Rutgers-Newark. Also joining this conference for the upcoming season is Southern Virginia, Kean, Neumann and Ramapo.

The men will play in the Alumni Gymnasium that was built in 1927. It will be renovated for practices and matches, with funds coming from the College and Randolph-Macon fans.
