In the San Jose leg of the Brazil Beach Volleyball World Tour, father and son faced each other for the first time in their career’s.

Ricardo Santos gained bragging rights when Andre Stein and him defeated son Pedro Henrique and Felipe Cavazin in a sweep 2-0 (21-14, 21-19). It was the first time that the Athens 2004 Olympic champion and 2003 FIVB Beach Volleyball world champion had ever faced his 20-year-old son.

“It was a special moment. I do not think anyone in high-level beach volleyball has gone through a moment like this, something so powerful in an athlete’s life,” said Santos.

The win secured Santos and Stein a place in the quarterfinals, three other pairs have earned their position in the last eight teams of the tournament: Rio 2016 Olympic champions Alison Cerutti/Bruno Schmidt, Brazil Tour leaders Alvaro Filho/Saymon Santos and Oscar Brandao/Havaldo Moreira.

San Jose is the fifth stop of the Brazil Tour and final one before they break for Christmas. After the New year, four more tournaments will take place.
