April Ross and Alix Klineman just recently teamed up for the 2018 season and going forward to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games – they have also fought through two country quota matches to make the main draw of their first tournament together in The Hague.
First up, they took on Betsi Flint/Kelley Larsen, to which they downed their fellow American’s 2-0, (21-16, 21-13). They then moved on to face off against Brittany Hochevar and Emily Day who took the first set off Ross/Klineman but lost the next two for a score of 2-1, (15-21, 21-18, 15-8).
These two matches are just the start of the competition in The Hague that will see the qualification tournament begin on January 3 followed by the start of the main draw later that day.
The tournament is being played indoors at the Sportcampus Zuiderpark in the Dutch capital.
“To start in January, in a cold climate and indoor feels good,” said Ross to the FIVB. “I always fought for a year-round calendar and I’m super stoked that we’re here and the venue is amazing. We should have this every year.”
