Following a 7-20 that included a 3-15 mark in MPSF play, UC San Diego is off to the Big West in 2018 with new hopes of a strong season; So much so in fact that they are receiving votes in the preseason coaches poll. It won’t be easy with their schedule ahead though, featuring 15 matches against teams ranked in the first coaches poll of the season.

The season begins on Friday January 5 on a neutral court vs. McKendree with a meeting vs. King the next day. They’re also back home on January 11 to host UC Merced, but the schedule really ramps up after that.

#4 UCLA comes to town on January 16, with other matches against preseason ranked/receiving votes opponents coming at #15 Grand Canyon (Jan. 26), vs. (RV) Princeton (Jan. 31), vs. #8 Stanford (Feb. 3) and vs. #3 BYU (Feb. 8). That is interrupted by a quick dip into conference action, but continues later in the year against #14 Ball State (March 3), #12 USC (March 7) and again #8 Stanford (March 9).

Speaking of conference matches though, UC San Diego’s first try in men’s volleyball as a member of the Big West comes on February 23 against (RV) UC Santa Barbara, who they also face on March 2. They’ll see the other conference members twice as well in #7 UC Irvine, #5 Hawaii, #2 Long Beach State and #11 CSUN.

Senior night comes on April 14 against the Matadors in hopes that it won’t be the final match with the Big West Tournament coming a week later for a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The full UC San Diego schedule in its entirety can be seen here via the school’s men’s volleyball athletic page.
