San Diego Setter Kristen Gengenbacher Garners WCC Player of the Week

San Diego senior setter Kristen Gengenbacher is bringing home the latest West Coast Conference Player of the Week award for her play in week seven. It’s the first of its kind for Gengenbacher while its the second for the Toreros this season after Jayden Kennedy won the first 2017 honor.

San Diego experienced a 2-0 week as they moved up from 25 to 24 in our latest VolleyMob Top 25 Power Rankings. The first match came in five sets as San Diego avoided the upset to Pacific, followed by a sweep of Saint Mary’s.

Gengenbacher, a 5’9″ native of Quincy, Illinois, logged 52 assists and a season-best 18 digs in the first victory before totaling 34 more assists against Saint Mary’s. Her 86 assists and 23 digs worked out to be 10.75 assists and 2.875 digs per set for her week of action.

Currently, Gengenbacher leads the West Coast Conference in assists per set (11.16) on an offense that is top 10 in both kills and assists per set in the nation.
