Out of the Netherlands, Sanne Keizer will partner up with Madelein Meppelink after taking a few years off to focus on other work and family.

Keizer has been a strong fixture in the beach volleyball world since she became a world champion at the age of 18 with then-partner Arjanne Stevens in 2002. Across the next 10 years, Keizer played with a number of players and made several appearances on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. In 2011, Keiser saw her greatest success with Marleen van Iersel as they won two World Tour events – Shanghai and Myslowice. Additionally, the pairing nabbed European Championship gold before finishing ninth at the London Olympic Games.

Keizer called it quits from the beach in 2013 to focus more on her family as she had twins. Though she was away from the game, she never stopped loving the game.

“I never completely lost my love for beach volleyball,” said Keizer. “I was able to rest at the peak of my 15-year career. Now I am feeling better than when I stopped in 2013.”

As announced by Meppelink on her Instagram account, the pairing will stick it out on their run to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Very excited to announce my partner in crime for the road to Tokyo! @sannekeizer will batlle next to me on the court! #teamevi #voorelkaar #keizermeppelink #beachvolleyball #obrigado_europe
