Lynee Beattie and Melissa Coutts have been selected as the beach pair to represent Scotland at the Commonwealth Games that will take place in April 2018.
The duo, though, finds themselves in a tough spot when it comes to training for the event, as they are in the midst of a tough Scottish winter. At the moment, the pair is training at a small indoor facility on colder days while trying to brave the cold on a “warmer” day. With the cold, it is hard to prepare for the heat that Australia will offer during the event but they are focusing more on playing competitive matches.
Recently, the duo played at the four-star FIVB World Tour event in the Hague. The duo struggled to compete with the competition at the tournament, as they lost to Adriana-Maria Matei and Beata Vaida in the qualification round 2-0, (21-6, 21-11). This match marked their first and only of the tournament – but gave them an idea of what they need to work on for the upcoming competition.
The 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia will take place from April 4 to 15 of this year. Beach volleyball will begin their competition on April 5 and continue through the finals on April 12. This is the first year that the Commonwealth Games will host a beach volleyball tournament within the games, with the rising popularity of the sport.
