After a 26-win season in 2016, SMU is tacking onto its 2017 roster with Eva Linden, a transfer from Portland State. The 6’0″ outside hitter will be a junior in 2017 and have two years left of eligibility.
Linden is originally out of Milton, Washington, where at Fife High School she earned the attention of nearby Portland State. As a true freshman in 2015, she played in every match – including 101 of the team’s 104 sets. She also ranked second on the team with 2.85 kills per set, even recording a career-best 21 kills against Montana State. However, her playing time went down in year two.
Linden appeared in 38 sets last year as a sophomore. She logged 84 kills (2.21 per set), 29 digs and 18 blocks for a Portland State squad that went 17-12 and 9-7 in conference play. As Linden heads south to SMU, she will try to regain the playing time and performance she had as a freshman.
The Mustangs finished 2016 with a 26-8 mark. They also went 18-2 in the AAC and swept Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before bowing out to Texas in the second round.
