Round 2 Of Men’s CEV Challenge Cup Finishes Up Home Match Slate

2017 CEV Challenge Cup – Men

There were six sweeps in the first part of the second round of the 2017 Men’s CEV Challenge Cup. Along with that, five-set battles were needed to determine the winners of two matches.

The next round of the competition will begin on November 29 and 30.

Second Round – Home Matches

  • Olympiacos Piraeus def. Inegol Belediye Bursa 3-0, (25-23, 25-14, 25-18)

Olympiacos swept through their first second-round match with Mikko Oivanen leading the way with 14 points in the win. Todor Aleksiev added another eight points in the win while Niels Klapwijk was the top scorer of the match with 16 points for Inegol.

  • Lausanne UC def. Tricolorul MVP Ploiesti 3-0, (25-21, 25-19, 25-22)

Leading the way for Lausanne UC in their sweep over Tricolorul MVP Ploiesti was Nick Del Bianco with 15 points followed by Adrien Prevel with another 15.

  • Benfica Lisboa def. ACS Volei Municipal Zalau 3-1, (26-24, 19-25, 25-23, 25-16)

Flavio Antonio Santos Soares led the way for the victors with 17 points while Miroslav Gradinarov and Milija Mrdak added 16 and 10 points, respectively.

  • Levski Sofia def. VC Strassen 3-1, (22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-20)

After dropping the first set, Levski pushed through to win the next three over VC Strassen. Smilen Mlyakov led the way with 20 points in the win while Simeon Aleksandrov added another 12 points.

  • Hapoel Kfar Saba def. Nea Salamina Famagusta 3-0, (25-19, 25-21, 25-12)

Hapoel secured the top-two scorers in the team’s win over Nea Salamina with Sebastian Rafal Devash leading the squad with 15 points while Juarez Gomez Leal Junior posted another 12 points. Guy Ben Gal recorded 10 points as well while Gabriel Georgiou added 12 points for Nea Salamina.

  • Lokomotiv Baku def. Apoel Nicosia 3-0, (25-20, 25-21, 25-19)

Lokomotiv Baku downed Apoel in straight sets with Parviz Samadov posting 13 points, Vugar Bayramov with 12 and Dmitriy Obodnikov added 11 points in the win. Apoel’s Alexandro Rodriguez posted a match-best 16 points.

  • Volejbal Brno def. Mladost Ribola Kastela 3-0, (25-9, 25-21, 25-18)

Volejbal Brno’s Michal Hrazdira led the sweep over Mladost with 16 points while Daniel Rimal and Jan Prazak each added 10 points.

  • Spartak Myjava def. Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel 3-1, (25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 25-20)

Jakub Petras led Spartak to their four-set win over Union Raiffeisen with 24 points while Jakub Ihnat and Matus Konc added 17 and 13 points, respectively. Union’s Matiss Gabdullins put down 22 points in the loss.

  • VKP Bystrina SPU Nitra def. Fino Kaposvar 3-2, (25-17, 18-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-12)

VKP was led by Igor Rehak with 26 points in the team’s five-set victory over Fino Kaposvar. Stanislaw Wawrzynczyk and Anton Lukas Menner added 18 and 14 points, respectively, for VKP.

  • Gentofte Volley def. BK Tromso 3-0, (27-25, 25-20, 25-20)

Gentofte was led by Peter Trolle Bonnesen with 21 points while Mads Mollgaard added 15 points in the win over BK Tromso.

  • Forde VBK def. Viking TIF Bergen 3-2, (25-18, 21-25, 19-25, 29-27, 15-9)

Ford VBK had a number of steady scorers that led them to the five-set victory over Viking TIF Bergen. Lars Fredrik led the way for Ford with 16 points while Daniel Rod and Mathias Loftesnes added another 14 each in the win.
