The NCAA Division I Southland Conference will sponsor a beach volleyball championship in 2020, which will be hosted in its first year by Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. There are a number of beach volleyball programs in the conference, but to date they’ve only sponsored a “Southland Showcase,” which is like a conference championship tournament but without the results counting as an actual Southland Conference championship.

The conference already has 5 members institutions that sponsor beach volleyball, including Houtson Baptist, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, New Orleans, Central Arkansas, and Abilene Christian. There are 8 other Southland Conference schools that sponsor indoor volleyball teams, and at the rate that the sport is growing, it’s possible that by the spring of 2020, more teams. We reached out to the Southland Conference to see if they were anticipating any new members, but as of posting have not heard back.

Texas A&M Corpus-Christi currently plays at on-campus courts inside the Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium.

There are currently 6 NCAA conferences that sponsor beach volleyball championships: the Big West, the West Coast Conference, the Pac-12, the Ohio Valley Conference, the CCSA, and the ASUN.

Final Standings from 2018 SLC Showcase:

  1. Houston Baptist
  2. New Orleans
  3. (Tie) TAMU-CC/Central Arkansas
  4. Abilene Christian
