SOMERSET, NJ – The Northeast Conference (NEC) announced today that St. Francis Brooklyn junior outside hitter Lauren Montgomery has been named the Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week and freshman libero Kizzy Rodriguez earns both the Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors. It is the first time in program history that the Terriers have swept NEC volleyball weekly awards.
Montgomery claims her first career NEC Player of the Week honor after leading the Terriers to a perfect 2-0 weekend. The junior recorded 38 kills, 3.8 kills per set, and a .341 hitting percentage.
She posted 13 kills and hit .250 in the five-set victory against Robert Morris on Friday. The junior followed up that performance with a career-high 25 kills while hitting .404 in the come-from-behind five-set win over Saint Francis (PA). The 25 kills were the most by a student-athlete in the NEC this season and the highest total since Aleksandra Gligoric (two times) and Sacred Heart’s Makayla Doyle recorded 27 kills apiece in 2017.

Rodriguez takes home her second Defensive Player of the Week award and second Rookie of the Week honor this season. The freshman had another strong week for the Terriers as the team extended their winning streak to a season-high four matches. Rodriguez totaled 62 digs and 3.8 digs per set in two matches.
She recorded 22 digs in the win over Robert Morris and then went on to register a career-high 40 digs against Saint Francis (PA). Rodriguez’ 40 digs were the most by a student-athlete in the NEC this season, and the highest total in the league since Central Connecticut’s Lindsey Massicotte registered 46 on November 10, 2017. The 40 digs were the fifth-highest mark in the nation this season, the most by a freshman performer.
The freshman’s 40-dig performance was the first by a student-athlete from St. Francis Brooklyn since the program’s all-time digs leader, Liliana Rodriguez also tallied 40 against NJIT on August 27, 2010. She is the first NEC student-athlete to claim both the Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week awards since Brooke Schwab from Central Connecticut did so on October 7, 2013.
VB: Shoutout to @sfbk_vb's Kizzy Rodriguez for taking home the @necwvolleyball's Defensive Player of the Week & Rookie of the Week honors!! #BrooklynTough 🏐🏅
