Stanford Setter Paul Bischoff Once Again Out With Injury

It’s been a roller coaster of a season for Stanford’s sophomore setter Paul Bischoff, who has struggled to shake the injury bug. Bischoff was once again held out of a match as he failed to appear in the team’s loss yesterday to #8 Cal State Northridge.

Once again in his absence, Russell Dervay took over the starting setter role. Dervay played well with 31 assists for the match, but the team seems to get more going when Bischoff is in the match.

The injury saga began in week one, when Bischoff missed all three of his team’s matches and was listed as day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. In that stretch, Stanford went 0-3.

Last week, Bischoff returned to the court and helped his team earn their first victory of the season in a road win at Ball State. They also played Ohio State tough on the road. The return was notable as the Cardinal hit .218 in week one without him vs. .271 with him in the lineup. With him out last night, the team dropped back down to a .200 mark.

Although it is unknown at the time if the injury is the same or different, it would be safe to assume that if the injury is the same it was re-aggravated at some point. That could potentially speak to the injury and that it could be something that nags him throughout the season, but again the type of injury is unclear.
