The 2017 AVCA Player of the Year, Kathryn Plummer, has reached the 1,000 career kill mark in just the 70th match of her career as a junior. Plummer came into the night, with the Cardinal facing Howard, at 999 for her career and notched her first kill of the match in the first set.

Plummer came into college out of Aliso Viejo, California and immediately made an impact with Stanford in 2016. As a true freshman on a National Championship team, the 6’6″ outside hitter notched 431 kills (3.34 per set) on a .258 mark. She tacked on another 555 (4.66 per set) on a .319 hitting percentage last season in leading the Cardinal to the Final Four.

In the season opener on Sunday, Plummer posted 13 kills, which put her one away. She finished tonight’s match against Howard with 8 more to give her 1,007 in total.

After reaching that 1K plateau, she will now go for the heralded 2k mark. If she put up just over 500 kills as a junior and senior (less than her sophomore season) she would hit 2,000. Outside of that goal, she could start moving into the top 10 on the Stanford individual career kills list as soon as next season.

1. Ogonna Nnamani 2001-04 2,450
2. Alix Klineman 2007-10 2,008
3. Logan Tom 1999-02 1,939
4. Kristin Klein 1988-91 1,909
5. Kristin Folkl 1994-97 1,833
6. Kristin Richards 2003-06 1,819
7. Bev Oden 1989-92 1,753
8. Kim Oden 1982-85 1,751
9. Foluke Akinradewo 2005-08 1,682
10. Cynthia Barboza 2005-08 1,639

Therefore, if Plummer matched her kill production from her sophomore season and repeated it in 2018 and 2019, she would leave the Cardinal with 2,096 – good for second all time.

Adding to the numbers are the awards for Plummer, who was an AVCA First-Team All-American in 2016 and 2017, the AVCA Player of the Year last season, the AVCA Freshman of the Year in year one and a myriad of other honors.

Beyond kills, Plummer also sits at 469 career digs as she encroaches on 500 for her career.
