Faisel Molijn, a coach of the Suriname Men’s National volleyball team, has passed away in an auto collision.

Announced by NORCECA on November 1st, which would have been his 37th brthday, Molijn is said to have died in an auto accident in October after a training session in Paramiaribo, the country’s capital. The team had assembled there to prepare for the CAZOVA Qualifier Tournament.

Molijn was also trainer-coach of the volleyball club Lyzecks in Suriname.

The team dedicated its performance in the zonal qualifier to Molijn’s memory. The team finished 2nd in Group B play to advance to the second round of qualifying following a 3-2 win over Guadeloupe.

The tournament will ultimately determine representatives for the 2018 Men’s Indoor World Championships in Bulgaria and Italy.

“In Molijn we not only lose a friend, good coach and all around great guy, but a person who love the sport of volleyball with his whole heart and showed it daily,” the press release said. “Faisel Molijn you will be truly missed. Hope you keep the ball flying wherever you are. Rest in Peace.”
