Switch-ups Possible For Top Italian Men’s League Setters

The Italian Men’s League could see some switch-ups in talented setters for the 2018-19 season, as there are rumors flying around that Micah Christenson’s contract may not be renewed and that Bruno Rezende could be entertaining new offers.

Cucine Lube Civitanova has had a top-of-the-line season this year, finishing 2nd overall in the league with a 22-4 record. They recently squared off against 7th placed Wixo LPR Piacenza, to which they the best of three series in two matches. Christenson led the team to this feat as the starting setter for the squad all year. Additionally, Christenson has helped the team to the Playoffs 12 of the Champions League, where they won their opening match against PGE Skra Belchatow in a five-set thriller and are set to take them on again on March 22 to advance to the Playoffs 6.

The American could face the task of finding a new team in the offseason, though, if Cucine Lube does not re-up his contract for the coming season. At this time it is uncertain as to why Cucine Lube would be considering a change after their successful season. It could come down to them being unsatisfied with his performance on the court or a renegotiation of money they don’t have to spend.

On the other hand, Rezende of Azimut Modena could potentially be entertaining new offers, despite saying he would like to stay with Modena for the coming season. The Brazilian setter has received a number of offers from outside clubs which could push Modena to swiftly renegotiate the terms of his contract to extend with the team.

Modena finished in 3rd place overall in the Italian League this season with a 20-6 record. The team also sports Earvin Ngapeth of France who leads the team in scoring. The Rezende/Ngapeth duo is a deadly one on the court, with the two being able to produce plays that not many players could achieve.

There are also rumors flying around on gazzetta.it that a potential swap between the two teams could be an open option at this point. This could be a reason as to why Cucine Lube is hesitant to renew with Christenson as they are looking for an answer from Rezende.
