Iowa upset #5 Wisconsin for the first time since 2009, while Michigan also escaped with a five-set home win, moving past Indiana. #4 Minnesota snapped #3 Nebraska’s 14-match win streak to claim the top spot in the Big Ten standings after Week 3.
A lot went down in Big Ten volleyball action Saturday night, as Maryland downed Ohio State in 5 sets, 5th-ranked Nebraska ended 4th-ranked Illinois’ perfect start with a 4-set win and Michigan State got back on track with a 4-set win over Rutgers. 7th-ranked Minnesota and 3rd-ranked Wisconsin swept by Indiana and 20th-ranked Purdue, respectively.
Ohio State earned the upset in 4 sets over 4th-ranked Penn State, while 8th-ranked Illinois fended off a feisty Indiana volleyball program in 5 sets to remain undefeated on the season. 5th-ranked Nebraska and 19th-ranked Michigan downed Michigan State and Iowa, 3-1, respectively to round out Big Ten opening week.
The Big Ten could make a case for being the best league in the nation with a strong 83 percent winning percentage (127-26), seven teams among the VolleyMob Top 25 and three undefeated teams, but the conference is still largely untested.
