Saturday featured 12 matches with the winners earning a ticket to the Sweet 16 next weekend. Eight of the matches ended in sweeps, although two of those provided upsets as No. 9 Creighton and No. 11 USC fell to Washington and San Diego respectively.
In her final home match, senior All-American Mikaela Foecke had 16 kills without an error to lead the No. 6 seed Nebraska volleyball team to a 25-14, 25-22, 25-18 sweep of No. 24 Missouri in the NCAA second round.
Minnesota’s Samantha Seliger-Swenson was named the Big Ten Player of the Year and Co-Setter of the Year, while Penn State’s Kendall White was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year. Illinois’ Jordyn Poulter also garnered Co-Settter of the Year nods, while Penn State’s Jonni Parker earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors.
Michigan’s Paige Jones, Carly Skjodt and MacKenzi Welsh, Nebraska’s Mikaela Foecke and Lauren Stivrins, and Penn State’s Kendall White earn Big Ten weekly honors.
Baylor’s Shelly Fanning was a force at the net both offensively and defensively in wins over Iowa State and Kansas State en route to VolleyMob Player of the Week honors.
