The AVCA has named Tamir Hershko of UC Irvine as their Division I-II Men’s Player of the Week after helping his team move up in the polls this week.

UC Irvine played two tough five set matches this week, taking down #6 UCLA and #13 UC Santa Barbara in each. After the two wins this week, the Anteaters moved up a spot in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

Hershko posted 4.20 kills per set this past week and an overall hitting percentage of .429. In the teams first match against UCLA, Hershko hammered down a season-best 23 kills, sealing the deal for the Anteaters in the fifth, putting down his final kill at 17-15. He followed that performance with 19 kills, five digs and three blocks against UC Santa Barbara. Again, late in the fifth, Hershko stepped up to help UC Irvine prevail in a comeback, five set victory 18-16.

This is the second time that Hershko has garnished the award, with the last coming on January 13, 2015. For UC Irvine, the award has been handed out a total of 28 times in program history. Along with the AVCA Player of the Week, Hershko was named as the MPSF Player of the Week, the third time that he has been presented with the award.
