Tennessee is bringing on Stephanie Spencer, a transfer from Georgia Southern for the 2017 season. After two seasons at her previous stint, Spencer will be immediately eligible in the fall and have two years left of play as she will be a junior in 2017.
Originally from North Canton, Ohio, Spencer starter her prep career at Jackson High School. She was third-team all-state on a state runner-up team as a senior in 2014 as she collected over 1,000 kills in three varsity seasons in high school.
A 6’1″ outside hitter, Spencer played in 29 matches with 27 starts as a freshman in 2015. She averaged 2.22 kills per set, including a season-high of 22 kills coming against Georgia. In her second season, Spencer started one less match (26), but appeared in two more (31). Her kills per set dropped a bit (1.86), but she did average a career-best 1.64 digs per set.
Spencer becomes the sixth outside hitter on the roster. Of the other five, there are two seniors, one junior, one redshirt sophomore and a lone incoming freshman. She joins a program that in 2016 went 17-14 as they finished with a winning record overall to go along with a 7-11 mark in conference play. They last made the NCAA Tournament in 2012.
