First year head coach Laura “Bird” Kuhn is trying to get a leg up on the competition, enlisting her team in a 12-day training tour across Europe this May.
The team will not only bring its returning players but also its five freshman, who enrolled early, allowing for team bonding and competitive learning.
“The timing of this trip, going to Europe with our five new freshmen and our team, all of us getting to know each other, is going to be perfect for our competitive confidence and the chemistry of the team,” Kuhn said. “I’ve been on a couple of these trips with other teams, and it is so awesome to see the growth as individuals and as a team, competitively, so I’m super excited for this group.”
The Aggies will not only take in the sites in Prague, Czech Republic; Vienna, Austria; Maribor, Slovenia; Venice and Milan, Italy; and Rovinj/Pula/Umag, Croatia, but will face several junior national and club teams during the trip.
The trip is being funded by the 12th Man Foundation and coordinated by Bring It Promotions, which has a Texas A&M tie.
Former Aggie Sarah Ammerman, who was a member of the last Texas A&M squad to travel abroad in 2008, is now a member of the Bring It Promotions staff and will actually act as the Aggies’ tour guide throughout their trip. Ammerman, a former All-American joined the BIP staff in 2012 after playing professionally in Puerto Rico, Slovenia and Germany.
Texas A&M is in the midst of its spring season, which is slated to last through April 25. After finals on May 8, the team will have two days of practice before hitting the road for Prague. The Aggies will be gone May 12 to May 23.
The team will be documenting its travels on 12thMan.com as well as Facebook, twitter and Instagram.
Texas A&M went 10-15 in 2017 and returns nine letterwinners from that squad.
