From 2008-2011, Rachael Adams was a dominant force for the Texas Longhorns. When she arrived in Austin, the Longhorns had some success, but were just beginning to establish themselves as perennial NCAA Championship contenders. In Adams’ four seasons with the program, the team won 3 Big 12 Championships and finished ranked in the top 4 teams in the country each season (leading to an NCAA title in 2012 – the year after Adams graduated).
In 2014, Adams was a part of the American team that won World Championship gold, and last month in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she was a part of a squad that topped the Netherlands for a bronze medal at the Olympic Games – the country’s 3rd-straight finish on the podium.
In the above video, courtesy of the Longhorn Network, the current generation of Longhorn players (none of whom played with Adams collegiately) and members of the staff talk about how 5 years after her graduation, she still influences the program today.
Below, see Texas a similar discussion of associate head coach Erik Sullivan, himself a two-time Olympian that was named Team Leader for the U.S. Men’s team in Rio.
