This season, Texas State’s head coach Karen Chisum picked up her 850th win as a coach – all at Texas State in her 38-year career with the team. Chisum’s 850th win came against Houston Baptist on September 9 in three sets – giving the Huskies their first loss of the year.
Chisum is the fifth-winningest coach in NCAA Division I volleyball and the second-longest tenured active coach at 38 years, just one year behind Penn State’s Russ Rose. This feat makes Chisum one of two women that are active in the top-five of winning in Division I, right behind Florida’s Mary Wise who has 887 active wins.
Chisum sits in an elite group across all three NCAA divisions, being one of nine that have won 800 matches with one team. She was the 13th Division I coach to hit 800 wins and the 22nd among all three divisions.
Over her 38 year career with Texas State, Chisum has won seven regular season conference championships and eight tournament championships. In conference play over her career, Chisum holds a 355-143 record for a .713 winning percentage.
In 38 years as a head coach, Chisum has only had seven seasons under a .500 winning percentage and holds a .612 winning percentage for her career.
