Coaches for three small-college volleyball programs have announced their resignations. Briefly:
…Rachelle Wiegand resigned as the head coach of Bethel College (Indiana) head women’s volleyball coach on Monday after just a short 6 months at the helm. In her first, and only, season, Bethel finished 9-23 and advanced to the first round of theNAIA- Crossroads League postseason tournament. “It is with much regret that I accepted the resignation of Coach Wiegand,” said Athletic Director Tom Visker. “In her first season as a head coach, she demonstrated great leadership of our volleyball program. Her enthusiasm and her commitment to her team and Bethel College will be missed. I wish her God’s blessings as she takes her next faithful steps in her faith journey.” Assistant coach Katie Weiss has been named the interim head coach. Bethel College won NCCAA National Championships in 1993, 1994, 1998, and 2007…
…Another NAIA head coach, Kristin Steele, has resigned after 6 seasons with MidAmerican Nazarene University. She leaves as the most successful coach in program history with a 175-71 overall record, including 61-9 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. In that time, she’s won 4 HAAC Coach of the Year awards, 5 HAAC regular season titles, 4 HAAC post-season titles, and 5 appearances in the NAIA National Championship tournament…
…NCAA Division III Eastern Mennonite University men’s volleyball team has announced Ross Madden as its interim men’s volleyball coach. He takes over after Dominick Porter resigned in November. EMU graduated just 1 senior from a team that went 12-12 last year. “I expect us to get better and better and better,” he said. “We can’t expect everything to go our way, but (my approach is) every night before I go to bed, I sit and ponder the question, ‘How can tomorrow be even better than today?'” The school is still conducting a search for its permanent coach in the spring semester, but says that Madden is invited to apply for the job on a permanent basis. Preseason practice begins January 3rd, with the team’s first games coming on January 14th…
